Bikini Fitness Athlete (2015)



It all began 230 pounds ago. I was fat, I didn’t want to be. I set a challenge for myself that I would lose fifty pounds. This I did, but I wanted more. This is what then brought me to Jamil’s doorstep.

I wanted another challenge, probably the biggest challenge I ever ventured on. Honestly, I wasn’t so sure this challenge would be as successful as I wanted to get into bodybuilding, fitness to be exact. My first meeting with Jamil, he truly made me feel like this seemingly impossible goal of mine was quite the opposite. It was something he would help me to realise.


Jamil coached me through workout after workout and always seemed to know exactly the right measure of difficulty I needed. When I needed to be pushed and when I needed to hold it down a little. As a trainer Jamil was not only professional in everything he did, he had a way of making you feel so relaxed and comfortable, cracking jokes and making you feel at ease. Never mind those were sometimes at your expense, you always laughed at it and pushed harder.


At the end of it all, I truly surprised myself. Jamil had helped me to lose 32 more pounds! And in all of this, I had also gained significant muscle mass and definition! Imagine, losing that many pounds but yet some amount of weight would have been added from the muscle. I know it was hard for me to believe.


All in all, it was definitely not an easy process, but with Jamil as my partner, I succeeded. From start to finish he was there. On top of this, he taught me enough that I could keep going on the days he wasn’t physically there. By the end of it all, I was the fittest I had ever been in my life.

Bikini Fitness Athlete (2014)



When I first approached Jamil, the goal I presented to him in my mind, seemed especially far-fetched. To a former “big” girl who had just discovered a modicum of fitness, entering a bodybuilding competition, ladies bikini to be exact, seemed simply put out of my reach. Perhaps even more so when Jamil inquired as to whether I owned a bikini in which we could do assessments and my answer was a slightly horrified no.


I say all of the above to paint the picture of a trainer dedicated to helping persons achieve new and realistic levels of fitness. The journey to the stage was a long one, filled with many a doubt on my part, but throughout, Jamil remained an unwavering source of support and maybe even more importantly confidence that we would finish the task at hand and finish it well.


While there may have been a time or two where I sincerely wanted to drop a dumbbell on his foot, he knew when to push me further and when to listen to the cries of my aching body. I couldn’t have asked for a better partner/trainer in my personal fitness journey.

Jamil is one of the most disciplined and hard working athletes I have met in any sport throughout my athletic career. Anyone who has had the privilege of not only being trained by Jamil, but also training with him can attest to his dedication to his sport. Jamil leads by example, and his work ethic has been one of the key motivational factors behind my new found love for training and in setting new goals for myself within my sport. Since January 2011, when I started to train with Jamil, I have lost 35lbs and this past summer (2011) I had my best performance at the Caribbean Squash Championships since winning the individual title in 2007.
